The time and year is 1872. The place is Manhatten, New York City. Horace Carpetine has been raised in a family of logical people, therefore, thinks logicaly. So as a pretty smart apprentice of Enoch Middleditch, a skilled photographer, he thinks of his trade like it’s a scientific version of art. But when a wealthy lady named Mrs. Frederick Von Macht orders a portrait, strange things start to happen.
Horace’s first real photographs start showing their dead nephew. Mrs and Mr. Frederick Von Macht get angry and the Mister almost got in a fist fight with Mr. Middleditch. A black slave named Pegg, even though they are illegal now, tells him how a girl named Elenora had died. Elenora’s last words were ‘I’ll get revenge. Don’t you worry Pegg.’ So Horace knew the owner of the house was evil. But how had elenora died?
She died of murder. Or something like that. She had been born in a very rich family. But then her mother and father died, so she inherited all the money. The Frederick Von Macht wanted all the money for themselves. So they adopted her and tried to get her to sign the paper that let them hve all her money. But she refused. THen she got sick. The evil couple refused to call the docter unless she signed it. So she died of the terrible sickness. In the end, the money went to the poor. But now they beleive that Elenora has come back to punish and torture the evil ones who had once abused and killed her.
